Blogs are more dynamic when you add pictures… but not just any old picture. It needs to be the right picture: applicable, interesting, high quality — and legal.
No, it is not ok to just grab an image from a Google Images search. Tempting, certainly, but when you use an image from a search, you are infringing upon other people’s rights.
But don’t let copyrighting issues get you down! There are plenty of answers!
Here are the inexpensive resources I recommend, in the order that I use them:
- Majority of images are just $1 or $2.
- Need to make a deposit in order to purchase but, unlike other sites, you still do your image purchasing by dollar amount, which means you actually know what you spent on each image.
- Selection is excellent, prices are reasonable.
- Can usually find what I”m looking for and pay just 1 or 2 credits*.
- They also offer a subscription option: $199 / 250 images per month (restricted to 66% of photos available).
- Similar to iStock, good selection & prices.
- Also like iStock, buy credits first and then buy.
- Lless expensive subscription options than iStock: $239 / 25 downloads per day = 750 images.
- Other subscription packages also available.
- Dreamstime offers a “free images” section, but I’ve never found something useful there.
- More expensive than others when purchasing one photo at a time.
- Subscription service similar to Dreamstime: $249 / 25 downloads per day = 750 images.

There are also some sites offering free photos. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Also, you still have to attribute the source of the photo. In other words, you still need to provide a link to the source of the photo — which means you are driving your audience to another site. (Is anything ever really free these days?)
